New Educational Opportunities
We are frequently asked about where to learn and to “learn more” about providing dentistry that is in harmony with what Fifth Quarter Seminars has presented over many years. So this issue is not about dental technical information, instead it’s about some new and exciting educational opportunities.
Many of you will remember Tom Hughes DDS who produced the before and after Smile Books that were sold by High Impact Image many years ago. Now Tom has produced a great series of videos that is entitled Mentors and Masters (M&M): “After practicing dentistry for 46 years, building a successful practice in a large California city and again in a small town in Colorado, I decided on the day I retired to make my experiences known to anyone who was willing to listen and learn.” The result is 50 ten-minute videos aimed at mentoring other dental professionals. In each video, Tom presents a specific dental technique that meets “easier, better, faster and what patients like” or a topic about his successful marketing. He provides a listing of recommended sources for further study.
While the M&M videos were made with less experienced dentists in mind, I have found that the content is also very well suited to those of us who have lots of dental experience. Included are some ideas new to me, even after Tom helped me for many years with his very clever dental techniques and marketing ideas. Several of his cases and techniques have been in my seminars, with grateful attribution.
We are often asked about education for new associate dentists joining a practice which utilizes what Fifth Quarter has been teaching. M &M would be a great start. There is a free preview of the 50 video series so its suitability can be easily judged. I think this is a sweet offer. Tom and his professional quality video producing partner, Jim Fitzgerald, have made this series very affordable.

Our highly successful webinar is going “live, in person” in 2022 :
My lecture partner, Jose-Luis Ruiz DDS, and I are pleased to be resuming “live” in-person seminars in 2022. Our first one is scheduled for Friday, February 4 in Silicon Valley (Santa Clara, CA). There will be additional venues announced (likely San Diego, Phoenix, Portland, Austin).
Below is the link to the official announcement, managed by Ruiz. The program is definitely not all new, but instead updated from our 2021 webinar programs. It is intended for those who missed it previously or perhaps want an update and refresher. Since Dr. Ruiz and I feel that dental schools are not providing this vital information, we have added deep discounts for new grads and students. If you know someone who needs our help, please refer them.
Registration for these seminars is being managed by Ruiz Dental Seminars. You may register at the Ruiz website, www.ruizdentalseminars.com or if you have trouble with the web site, as I did since it is currently being revised, just send e-mail to Marlen Stopsky: [email protected] To prevent confusion, registrations are being taken only by Ruiz.
Dr. Ruiz is a brilliant clinician, teacher, and researcher from Los Angeles. J-L’s innovative techniques to prevent subgingival margins by using enamel preservation, as well as making esthetic supra-gingival margins, are innovative. He has refined the concept of margin elevation, made famous by Prof. Pascal Magne. My part in this program supports the concepts taught by Dr. Ruiz. Included is a truly revolutionary bulk filling composite with no depth of cure limitations and the only one so far that is proven to be gap-free and is perfectly sealed at the bond interface. It eliminates the need for incremental filling. No gap, no leakage, no sensitivity, no recurrent caries. Seems too good to be true? Clinical evidence says otherwise. This bulk fill material, Bulk EZ, is a game changer and is ideal for buildups and margin elevation. I will also show another game changer, cantilevered, anterior zirconia adhesion bridges, almost no prep, bonded, with proven 100% success at 10 years. This is a perfect solution for missing lateral and central incisors. (I just have to laugh when I hear “zirconia cannot be bonded’. If you heard that from your lab, consider inviting the lab to attend too. They desperately need help, perhaps even more than the new grads.)
Let’s all look forward to a great 2022.
Stay Bonded,
Ray
